I have a pier and beam house, built in 2003. No rain gutters were installed. Just after I bought the house this past March, we had two months of almost continuous rain. When I had extra ventilation grates installed along the skirting, the contractor commented that it was wet under the house.
I now find that I can smell a musty odor in the bathroom cabinets, where the pipes come inside from underneath the house. I think this is from mold growing where the ground has been wet for so long.
How can I confirm this? Who do I call to check out and fix this problem? What would be done (besides installing rain gutters)? What can I expect to pay for this service?

I was refinishing a fireplace mantel. First I tried staining but didn't like it so I stripped it and then painted it. However there is molding and I couldn't get all of the **** of the stain out. So I tried to paint over it and it looks awful. Any help with trying to get the **** of the stain and paint out of a rope like molding would be much appreciated.

Approximately 3 years ago, we purchase a brand new spec home. The house is a tri-level house, with the basement portion approximately 1/2 below grade. When we purchased the house, the basement was completely finished, and only one room (the furnace room) has exposed 2×4's with insulation and plastic covering the exterior walls. Recently when a Satelite Dish installer pulled back some of the insulation to pass the cable wire through, he noticed that there was ice and moisture on the wall. Pulling back the insulation revealed that the entire wall was infected with mold. I contacted the builder and they are currently working to remove the mold and reseal the room, but I am wondering if I need to have them do more than that. Do I need to have the rest of the house inspected (difficult because it is all behind finished sheet rock)? They are removing mold from the inside, will there also be mold on the outside? Once they do clean it will the be permanent damage to my house? Thnks 4 ne help.

The mold is black and covers large areas of the cement walls. The corners are almost solid black. We placed an office chair we weren't using in the basement about a month ago when we first moved in; the fabric seat and back of the chair have since grown a greenish, fuzzy-looking mold. I don't want to store anything else in the basement until I can figure out a way to either get rid of the mold or make sure it doesn't grow on everything! I also do not wish to waste an entire basement's worth of storage space. The space does not have good ventilation and this is a house we are renting. Any advice?

I am buying a home that has a mold problem in the attic. We have asked the sellers to fix the problem using the soda blasting method. They came back and said that they spoke to someone that recommended another method (I'm sure a cheaper method). The attic is covered in about 80% mold and it is black in color. Does anyone know the best way of removing mold? Please help.

Hi I think my apartment has been infected with mold and I am trying to move all the clothes back to my family's house. Would the mold be carried back to their house and start growing again?
Second, I have at least a couple of hundred of clothes that can't be handwashed. What should I do? Thanks
